DC Character Sighting

Finally I can say I have been in a metro car with the Asian gentleman that sings hymns.

Others have been much more eloquent than I about the 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade so I’ll just be blunt. Hell yes I would have an abortion. I don’t have any moral or physical problems with the procedure. But, birth control is easier so I am pretty damn adamant about using it. You would think the Pro-Life crowd would also be pro birth control on the simple theory that no pregnancy means no abortion. And yet, let’s look at Georgia.

House Resolution 536

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution so as to provide that the paramount right to life is vested in each human being from the moment of fertilization without regard to age, race, sex, health, function, or condition of dependency; to provide for submission of this amendment for ratification or rejection; and for other purposes.

Moment of fertilization. That kicks out the pill, depo, the patch, IUD and all other hormone based birth control methods as they can destroy a fertilized egg.

Housecleaning Time

How is it, no matter how carefully you plan ahead, you always have to go to the bathroom right after finishing mopping the floor – while it is still wet.   Same as you suddenly want something from the fridge immediately after mopping the kitchen floor.

My cats are brilliant at telling the clean laundry pile waiting to be folded from the dirty laundry pile.

Granted, spending my Monday off work cleaning the apartment is not exciting.  But it is below freezing outside and the metro timetable is completely hosed thanks to work at Metro Center so distractions are at a minimum.  However even with the temperature the sun is shining brightly so I have the curtains open and my living room is flooded with light.  All the better to see the cobwebs in the ceiling corners.

It Was Pretty While It Lasted

The View from my Work Window

A Brush with Semi-Fame

After a very long day at work I decided to take advantage of Restaurant Week and have dinner at Spezie before heading home. They were able to find me a table in the bar area so I didn’t even need to wait. The table next to me was 3 guys – two somewhere their 30s drinking wine and one that wasn’t drinking and I was pretty sure it was because he wasn’t old enough. The young one also had an accent. Strange conversation too – they obviously knew each other but not very well. I guessed co-workers of some sort. Then one of the waiters asked if they had a game coming up and wished them good luck. Aha! I was sitting next to team members from the Washington Capitals. A quick look at the team website and I found Nicklas Backstrom, a 20 year old from Sweden. Thankfully he has had a haircut since that team photo and it quite an attractive young man in that strapping young Nordic kind of way. No idea who the other two were. Nicklas was easy to find just by looking at the youngest DOB on the site.

Dinner was lovely.  Spezie is offering most of the regular menu so there is a choice of around 10 each of appetizers and entrees and four or five desserts.  I had roasted peppers with mozzarella and anchovy parsley sauce for the starter and some lovely venison medallions with sweet onions for the main.  Dessert was chocolate cake with a mandarin orange layer and pistachio garnish.   I shudder to consider the Weight Watchers points but Spezie serves realistically size portions so you feel satisfied and full but not ickily stuffed.

I Want a Snow Day

It is all oletheros’s fault for putting that in my head. Our corporate office in Cambridge got a snow day today thanks to Boston declaring a snow emergency. Of course Boston also thought lightbright style images from Aqua Team Hunger Force were a terrorist threat so their definition of emergency is already suspect. We only got pizza ordered in for lunch. Sure, pizza is nice but it is not the same as playing in the snow.

Overhauling the site

I am completely redoing lostchaos.com.  I may even change the domain name although I’m not feeling quite that ambitious yet. First step was a move to a new host which seems to have gone beautifully.  I’m now setting up wordpress and linking it to livejournal.
